Summer Season & back to School , Blitzes , Camps and fun

Naoise and Anne are looking forward to getting back in our schools very soon and here’s a run down of their very busy summer. Huge thank you to you both for your outstanding work !!

We had a very busy summer season in Fingallians, this year. With our usual Summer Festivals, camps and this year, for the first time, we had our class Blitzes among some of our feeder primary schools.

A lot of children got to experience Gaelic Football, camogie & hurling for the first time, while representing their school and competing against the other schools in our catchment. Colmcille BNS, Colmcille GNS, Gaelscoil Brian Boróimhe and St. Cronan's took part, in what was a hugely successful couple of weeks, in June.

Children from 3rd class to 6th class in each school took part in blitzes, in both codes. This gave children a chance to represent their school, at a younger age or that maybe didn’t have the chance to play on the Senior School Team.

Special thanks goes to Tadhg who was a huge help, Daire O’Loughlin also and to the lads in the club for setting up the fields and the parents who gave a hand, dismantling the goals.

We had our teenage (Advanced Camp) in June this year, where 50 teenagers attended and were given top class Coaching sessions from some of Dublin’s finest Camogie, Hurling, LGFA and Gaelic Footballers. Hopefully this can continue to grow, over the next few years.

The Summer Camps were a huge success, our Hurling week, our Football week, our Campa Samhraidh and our Cúl Camp were enjoyed by children and coaches, alike. We had extra hands on deck this year and a lot of new helpers, who were a massive help all summer. The coaches and helpers made life so much easier, while also making sure that the children were practicing all the different skills of our Games. Huge credit has to go to everyone that helped.

We had 260 children at our Cúl Camp, this year. The new area proved to be a big hit with the children and the youngest groups, in particular! Again, life was made so much easier with the help of Aiden Doherty, Deirdre Hoey and Anne O’Loughlin who had the groups all sorted, children registered and ready to go on the Monday morning.

Between our Advanced Camp and our four summer camps, we had 756 children take part. If you add the summer festivals and the Class Blitzes, among the schools, we’ve had well over 1,000 children playing Gaelic Games from the end of May, to mid August.

It was a great summer, despite the weather. The children learned a lot and enjoyed their time at the club. A special mention must go to Tadhg Carroll, who was a huge addition to the Coaching Group this summer.
